Offering lifestyle programs based on the clients genetic make up
utilising data mined from Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS)
for markers shown to be associated with certain clinical
disorders. DNA tests targeting genes implicated in common
lifestyle-related illnesses are available, from which a clients
relative risk versus the “average person in the street” can be
calculated.
A panel of genetic tests
is used to detect certain point mutations (SNP’s) on the DNA
from a person’s sample. The results of analysis can be used to
predict the likelihood or propensity of developing that disease,
however is not a diagnostic report or medical advice... For
example, the potential to develop certain types of cancer,
cardiovascular disease or obesity to name but a few, have been
determined through Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and
SNP analysis. Knowledge obtained from the genetic tests, in
combination with a family history and your GP, can then be used
to make certain lifestyle choices, knowing that they now have
the opportunity to minimise their own potential risk factors.
Predisposition tests through SecureDNA will be made available to
the market in the coming months.
